Itinerary details

Day 1 – Arrival at Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Your adventure begins at Machame Gate after registration with the national park authorities. The trail winds through lush rainforest, where towering trees, vibrant vegetation, and curious wildlife create an unforgettable introduction to Mount Kilimanjaro. After several hours of trekking, you'll arrive at Machame Camp, where your mountain crew will have your tents prepared and a warm dinner waiting.
Elevation: 1,800m – 3,000m
Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
Day 2 – Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Leaving the rainforest behind, today's climb leads into the heath and moorland zone. Spectacular views begin to unfold as you gain elevation, with panoramic vistas across the mountain and surrounding plains. Upon arrival at Shira Camp, enjoy a hearty meal and watch the sunset over one of Africa's most remarkable landscapes.
Elevation: 3,000m – 3,840m
Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)
Today's trek follows the important "climb high, sleep low" acclimatisation principle. You'll ascend to the impressive Lava Tower before descending into the beautiful Barranco Valley. This day is essential for helping your body adapt to the altitude while rewarding you with some of the most dramatic scenery on Kilimanjaro.
Elevation: 3,840m – 4,630m – 3,960m
Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
Day 4 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
After breakfast, conquer the famous Barranco Wall—a thrilling yet non-technical climb that rewards you with breathtaking views. Continue across alpine valleys before reaching Karanga Camp, where you'll have time to relax, rehydrate, and prepare for the higher elevations ahead.
Elevation: 3,960m – 4,035m
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Day 5 – Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Today's trek is shorter, allowing your body to conserve energy before summit night. Arrive at Barafu Camp, your final base before reaching Africa's highest point. Enjoy an early dinner, organise your summit gear, and rest before your overnight ascent begins.
Elevation: 4,035m – 4,673m
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Day 6 – Summit Day: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then Mweka Camp
Just after midnight, you'll begin the most rewarding part of your journey. Under a sky filled with stars, climb steadily toward Stella Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the highest point in Africa. Witness an unforgettable sunrise above the clouds before celebrating your achievement. After photographs and time to take in the incredible views, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
Elevation: 4,673m – 5,895m – 3,100m
Hiking Time: 10–15 hours
Day 7 – Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Your final descent takes you through beautiful rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificate and celebrate your incredible accomplishment with your guides and fellow climbers. From there, you'll transfer back to your hotel for a well-earned shower, celebration, and a comfortable night's rest.
